What Happens If We Get Hit by a Car With Insurance in Another Country?
What happens if we get hit by a car with insurance in another country? Who do we contact? How do we find the foreign insurer correspondent in Romania?
I heard this question too many times and still, in Romania, car owners do not know where to go and what to do if they are hit by a car with insurance issued in another country.
If you encounter this problem you should do in the following way:
You must obtain a document in which is registered all the data of the event. It could be the police record, the amicable form. Also do not forget to record or to get a copy from driver license and also from vehicle certificate. It is necessary to have a copy of the green card form of the vehicle abroad. This is necessary to identify the insurer foreign correspondent in Romania.
To complete the form and find the foreign correspondent insurer please complete the fields in the table with corresponding data on the green card.
After completing these steps, identifying correspondent in Romania of the foreign insurer will be done as it follows:
Access the website at the following addresshttp://www.baar.ro/baar/. BAAR is the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Romania. On the first label you must complete the country code field. This code is represented by the first two letters from the code written at point number four from green card. On the next field you must complete the insurer's code. It consists of four letters after the country's code. On the next field you must complete the insurer's name. This can be found on the green card at point number eight. At the next two fields you must complete the date and the location of the accident. After completing all the fields, the system will display the correspondent in Romania of the foreign insurer.
After identifying the correspondent in Romania of the foreign insurer, you must get in touch with it. You have to provide him all the details of the accident you were involved, also copies of documents, the green card, the police record, the amicable form and so on. After providing all the information, it will open a claim file and continue with the claim settlement.
Until the correspondent of the foreign insurer doesn't receive the confirmation of the green card insurance validity, the correspondent will be able only to proceed to establish damages, not to pay them.
If the foreign insurer does not have a correspondent in Romania, managing and resolving of the damage will be done by BAAR.
