According to the Crestline Courier News, the mountain community of Crestline, just 30 minutes from Ontario, saw a four-car pileup earlier this month when an Agoura Hills woman caused a major auto accident on the mountain.
The 49-year-old woman, Kathleen Montagne, was allegedly driving north on Highway 330 near Running Springs when she veered to the left and crossed the double yellow line. This caused the woman to hit a southbound pickup truck driven by a Pico Rivera man.
The driver lost control of the truck that spun into the northbound lane where it was again struck by another auto, a Toyota FJ Cruiser. While the truck was spinning out of control and headed into the northbound lane, Montagnes auto moved back into the northbound lane of the highway, in what was now turning into an insurance company nightmare, where it hit another auto, a Volkswagen Jetta, in a head-on collision.
The driver of the Jetta had his three children in the auto with him. Everyone in the Jetta sustained some sort of injury and was transported via emergency personnel to an Ontario-area hospital for treatment. His 5-year-old son was hospitalized with possible spinal cord injuries. The other children were treated and released.
Only the Cruiser could be driven away from the scene; the rest of the vehicles involved had to be towed away. Most were taken to Ontario-area repair shops to wait for evaluation by insurance adjustors.
Although Montagne was not arrested at the scene, it is expected that once law enforcement officials complete their investigation, she will be cited for causing the auto accident. Most likely, it will be Montagnes insurance company that will be responsible for all of the damages, both medical and auto related, from the accident.
This is why it is so important to contact your own auto insurance company following any sort of auto mishap, so that they can begin the work of investigating the accident and determining which insurance company is liable and to what extent. This is also why it is a good idea to review your insurance policy with your auto insurance company every so often, to make sure that you have adequate coverage at the cheapest rates possible. Do not wait until an accident has you contacting your auto insurance company; contact your Ontario auto insurance company today to review your policy.
